Troubleshooting

Trouble with your ZAP?

We’re here to guide you through on how to utilize your ZAP without it causing any disruptions.

ZAP not responding

There are certain 'sweet spots' for iPhones and for Androids.

Please bear in mind that compatible iPhones have NFC always enabled (iPhone XR and later) and Android users may need to enable it via settings manually. Here is a support article that explains how to enable NFC for Androids.

iPhone:

  • Make sure the phone is lit up before zapping.
  • Zap your card on the top of the phone (for metal cards: with the QR code facing the device).

Android:

  • Make sure the phone is lit up and unlocked before zapping.
  • Zap the card on the back, the centre of the phone.

We recommend holding the ZAP for at least 2 seconds for metal cards.

ZAP shows a 'Device Not Active' page

If after zapping, you see the following page, it means that your ZAP is not yet active:

Please follow the instructions on the packaging, scan the following QR code or visit the Getting Started page for instructions on activating your ZAP.

Not working on iPhone

1. Make sure their phone works with Zapmii: Compatible Devices

The phone model you have does not matter when sharing!

2. Make sure to touch your ZAP to the very top of the back of their phone.

On iPhones, the sweet spot for reading a ZAP is on the very top of the back of the device.

3. A ZAP CANNOT be read when:

  • their phone is in airplane mode
  • their device flashlight is on
  • their phone screen is off
  • their camera is open

Not working on Android

1. Make sure their phone works with Zapmii: Compatible Devices

The phone model you have does not matter when sharing!

2. Make sure to touch your ZAP to the very centre of the back of their phone.

For Androids, the sweet spot for reading a ZAP is in the centre of the back of the device.

3. Make sure NFC is turned on in their phone settings

If their phone is on the compatible devices list and is still not reading your ZAP, go to their phone settings and search for NFC. Make sure that "NFC" is turned on!

How to enable NFC on Android

NFC Activation:

Step 1

Open “Settings” and search for “NFC” in the field at the top. If Android returns a search result like NFC or Near Field Communication, then NFC is available on your Android smartphone or tablet.

You can also manually look for NFC in your Android Settings.

First, access Connected Devices or More Connections.

On the next screen, tap on Connection Preferences.

‍‍

In the list of settings, you should see the NFC or Near Field Communication entry.

How to ZAP using an older iPhone (7, 8, X)

To ZAP to an iPhone 7, iPhone 8 or iPhone X, you must use the NFC reader in their control center! See the image below for how to activate this:
